Job Summary

– We are seeking to appoint a Policy & Sustainability Graduate within a fast-paced Planning Team
– You need to be able to demonstrate an interest in planning policy, infrastructure and sustainability, outstanding organisation and time management skills, be solutions led, and have excellent communication skills.
– You will be an integral part of our team, helping to deliver transformational policy documents and schemes, and taking accountability for workstreams within our team from day one.
– You will have completed or be working towards the completion of your 3rd year of academic study at undergraduate level in planning or a relatable academic subject, seeking your first planning role
– You will have interest in a career in planning and sustainability, and be adaptable to the fluid environment in which we operate
– You will receive training and career development with the opportunity to work across Be First teams in planning, consultancy and transport as part of your development

– We will be looking at bright graduates with a min 2:1 or equiv degree in a planning/land use/environmental discipline.

Job Salary

£28,000 to 33,000 (Grade 7) + benefits

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
– Developing policy documents, and managing projects related to planning policy, infrastructure and sustainability
– Liaising with key internal and external stakeholders including teams across the Council, neighbouring boroughs, and the Greater London Authority
– Assisting with infrastructure planning matters and governance processes for the allocation of funding to infrastructure projects
– Supporting other team members delivering transformational projects in the Borough of Barking and Dagenham
– The preparation of governance reports, briefings, presentations, policy consultation responses and funding bids
– Assisting in the collation and presentation of data for the monitoring of planning policies and carbon offset fund
– Supporting the development and implementation of the Be First Zero Carbon Roadmap
– Staying up to date on legislative changes, national planning reform and local planning context

Ideally, we are looking for an individual who:

– Is a motivated, self-starter with a willingness to learn
– Has a keen attention to detail whilst being flexible and solutions driven

– Has good IT skills
