Be First Building Control provide services for a diverse and exciting range of projects, including high-rise residential, commercial, healthcare, and educational, as well as smaller residential and domestic works. Our offices are based in Barking, but we work flexibly between the office, home, on-site and with clients.
About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic Class 3H Registered Building Inspector to join our friendly and responsive team, to administer the Building Regulations and associated legislation. You will liaise with a wide range of stakeholders, working closely with builders, homeowners, architects, and developers. First class organisational skills are essential, and you must be able to keep accurate and comprehensive records. Excellent interpersonal skills are required, with the ability to communicate concisely and articulately at all levels.

£51,000 - £70,000/yr, up to 10% pension contribution, payment of annual professional fee, and 30 days annual leave entitlementClosing Date

Key responsibilities
- Take a central lead on major projects including HRBs as part of the BSR MDT.
- Take lead on small residential projects as and when required.
- Support the Head of Building Control to implement the requirements of the Building Safety Regulator and continual improvement of the Building Control service.
- Assessment of plans to assess applications for compliance with the Building Regulations.
- Carry out on-site technical assessments of building works for compliance with the Building Regulations.
- Attend dangerous structure reports during office hours to keep members of the public safe. Opportunity to become a member of the out of (working) hours dangerous structure callout team.
- Take enforcement action against unauthorised building work.
- Provide advice to building professionals and homeowners to help them achieve compliance with the Building Regulations.
- Assist with the development of trainee surveyors within the team.
- Keep up to date with changes to legislation and guidance, maintain continued professional development records and maintain Class 3H RBI status.
Person Specification
Skills and experience
We are looking for an individual with –
- Experience in a similar role, Class 3H Registration with the BSR and a membership of an appropriate body including RICS, CABE or CIOB.
- Experience in complex high rise residential buildings and commercial buildings.
- Proven technical abilities with demonstrable knowledge and understanding of The Building Regulations, The Building Act and all associated guidance and legislation.
- Commercial awareness and excellent customer service
- Ability to work well in a team environment and also effectively as an individual.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Professional report writing skills.
- Ability to weigh up all possible options to a problem and make considered decisions.
- Drive to develop professionally.
