Be First, the regeneration arm of Barking and Dagenham Council, estimate they will handover 900, completed new homes by the end of June this year, meaning Barking and Dagenham will continue to be one of the largest affordable home builders in the country with one in five of all affordable homes in London being built in the borough.
This momentum of delivery will see affordable housing boosted right across the borough, in projects including the Gascoigne neighbourhood, Oxlow Lane, Padnall Lake and Thames Road. Be First and the Council will be working in partnership with their contractors including Mulally, Murphy and Sons, Willmott Dixon, Wates and McLaren to deliver these homes. Of all the homes built, 158 will be at market rent and there will be 743 affordable homes, funded by the Government’s Affordable Home Programme.
Once handed over, the homes will be marketed and available for people to rent. For more information, or to register your interest, please visit the Barking and Dagenham Reside website.
Tim Porter, Director of Delivery at Be First, said: “Be First will continue providing safe, warm, high quality homes for residents throughout 2024, as we handover 900 in the first half of the year alone. We have made our new homes mainly affordable with a small number at market rent to support this. All part of our ongoing mission to make Barking and Dagenham a great place to live, work and raise a family.”
Councillor Cameron Geddes, Cabinet member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “I’m delighted to say that in just the first six months of 2024 we’ll be completing nearly a thousand new homes in B&D, with the vast majority of these being affordable.
“I think it’s also worth noting that, despite the tremendous economic pressures being faced by the council, we continue to deliver safe and warm homes for B&D residents in line with our housing commitments.”
